Jerry F. Byrd, 82, of Paris, Tennessee, passed away peacefully at his residence, Sunday, May 21, 2023.

Born Sunday, November 10, 1940, in Detroit, Michigan, to the late Howard T. Byrd and the late Corinne Hill-Byrd. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his oldest brother, Lawrence “Sonny” Byrd and sister-in-law, Beverly Jean Byrd.

He retired at age 55 from the Paris Post Office where he spent 30 years as a city mail carrier.

Jerry was an Army veteran.  He was stationed in Thule, Greenland and loved his time in the service.

He was a Harley Davidson enthusiast and rode up until he was 78.  He enjoyed NASCAR, working on old cars, and traveled the southeast for years showing his car or truck at rod run shows.  He was an avid reader and spent the last few years reading westerns.

He is survived by his brother: Charles Byrd and sister-in-law: Merle Byrd, of Chicago, Illinois; his daughter: Teresa Byrd McCafferty, of Paris; his son: Adam (Dawn) Byrd, of Milan, Tennessee; his former wife and mother of his children: Delores Byrd-Lynch; four grandsons: Creighton, Curtis, and Cullen Brown, of the Nashville, Tennessee area, and Colton Robertson, of Paris; one granddaughter: Victoria Zeiger, of Shelby Township, Michigan; and eight great-grandchildren.

Jerry did not want a traditional funeral service but wanted everyone to know he loved his hometown of Paris, Tennessee, and his friends there.  He will be cremated, and his family will plan a memorial for a later date.
