
Buchanan, Tenn.–A trained historian and park management veteran has been hired as the new Paris Landing State Park Manager.
Jerry T. Wooten has been with the Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation for 20 years. Prior to Wooten’s promotion to Paris Landing, he had recently served as park manager of the Bicentennial Capitol Mall State Park in Nashville from 2016-23.
Prior to that, he served six years with the Tennessee Historical Commission from 2003-08, as a park ranger at Bicentennial Mall from 2008-2011, and as park manager at Johnsonville State Historic Park from 2011-2016.
As a trained historian who grew up in this area (he has a Ph.D. in public history), he recently published a book in 2019 about the Civil War entitled ‘Johnsonville’ and has published many historical articles. When not working at the park, Jerry enjoys camping, birding, oil painting, and golf.
