Martin, Tenn.–A Martin man is in the Weakley County Jail this morning, charged with shooting a woman Monday night.
Nicky Avent Jr., age 21, is charged with aggravated assault and drug possession.
The victim of the shooting was airlifted to Vanderbilt Medical Center and her condition is unknown this morning.
On Monday July 13th at approximately 6:14 pm, officers of the Martin Police Dept. were dispatched to 227 Meadowbrook in reference to a medical call. While responding to the call officers learned there was an individual at the scene with a firearm.
When officers arrived they found the victim inside the residence bleeding from a gunshot wound. Emergency Medical personnel arrived on the scene and transported the victim by ambulance. She was later flown to Vanderbilt Medical Center in Nashville.
Officers located Avent outside the residence. He was arrested without incident and charged with Aggravated Assault and Possession of Schedule II. He is being held in the Weakley County Detention Center awaiting arraignment.
Martin Police Department Investigators responded to process the crime scene and interview witnesses. The investigation is ongoing.
