Paris, Tenn.–Effective today, Cpl. Stacey Bostwick has resigned from his duties with the Henry County Sheriff’s Office and he issued a public apology to the people of Henry County.

Bostwick had been suspended last week with pay pending a hearing and sensitivity training following a Facebook post on his personal page that sheriff’s office officials said was ‘insensitive’ and which related to the death of George Floyd in Minnesota.

According to the press release issued by the sheriff’s office, “On his own accord Bostwick came to the Sheriff’s Office today to meet with members of the department and turn in his official letter of resignation.”

In his statement issued this morning, Bostwick said, “Dear friends of Henry county it has been an honor to serve you all. I have always said Henry county is the greatest place I have ever worked. I have dedicated my life to helping others. I have been in law enforcement now for 30 years and this has been the best 7 years in my career. I am truly sorry this incident has caused negative publicity for the Henry county sheriffs office and our community. It was never my intention to cause harm or offend anyone. I appreciate all of the love and support that has been shown to my family and I. It has truly been overwhelming to say the least. I thank each of you your friend Stacey Bostwick”

Earlier this week, Henry County Sheriff’s Cpl. Stacey Bostwick had requested a delay in the proceedings involving his suspension so that he can seek legal representation.

With his K9 Rowdy, Bostwick was instrumental in finding missing people and capturing high profile fugitives on the run, including Kirby Wallace accused of murdering several people in Stewart and Montgomery Counties in 2018 and the capture of Curtis Watson who escaped from the West Tennessee State Penitentiary in Henning and is accused of murdering a Department of Corrections administrator.
