New Historical Marker Installed At Paris City Cemetery

Paris, Tenn.–A Tennessee Historical Marker has been installed at the Paris City Cemetery for David Edward Jackson, who was an explorer, fur trader, businessman and the namesake for Jackson Hole, Wyoming. Jackson is buried at the cemetery after dying in Paris after a long illness with typhoid fever in December of 1837.
Henry County Cemetery Committee spokesperson Susan Stewart said the installation of the sign followed “many, many months of researching for the application to the Tennessee State Historical Commission, waiting for them to meet and vote, and waiting for construction of the sign.”
The sign was installed Thursday by TDOT workers in the pouring rain and Stewart thanked them, along with the DAR in Jackson Hole which raised the money for the sign. She also thanked Susan Pemberton for her research and the city of Paris.
The historical marker for Jackson joins markers already installed at the cemetery for J.D.C Atkins, E.W Grove and Congressman John Crockett.
