Entries For Paris Christmas Parade Sought

Paris, Tenn.–Round up your Christmas lights, extension cords, and anything with wheels. It’s time for the 13th Annual Holly, Jolly, Electric Christmas Parade. Sponsored by the Downtown Paris Association, the parade takes place 5 p.m. Saturday, December 14, immediately following Santa’s Christmas Festival.

“Folks are already going online to download their registration forms at VisitDowntownParis.com,” said Vickey Roberts, event chairman. “The people in our area are so creative and do a wonderful job lighting up everything including floats, golf carts, ATVs, small tractors, commercial vehicles, and even marching units for this illuminated event.” The parade entry fee is $10.

“Churches, organizations and families enjoy participating in this parade because the decorating is minimal,” said Paris Community Development Director Jennifer Morris. “The focus is on the lights, not little details. It’s one of the most popular events of the Christmas season.”

Commercial floats are especially being encouraged for this year’s parade. Committee Member Steve Parker said that in a nearby county, businesses enter beautifully lit floats in their community parade, then park their entries in front of their locations for decoration through the end of the year. “That’s a creative way to stretch those marketing dollars,” said Parker. Businesses also may enter their commercial vehicles that are decorated and lighted.

Trophies are awarded in the following categories: Most Christmas Spirit, Best Religious Theme, Best Decorated Float, Best Decorated Golf Cart of Small Tractor, Best Marching Unit and the coveted Clark Griswold Award for the best, knock-your-socks off entry.

Applications and guidelines are available at the DPA office at 203 North Fentress Street, at Paris City Hall or online at VisitDowntownParis.com. For more information call The DPA office at 731-653-PARIS.
