Fire Destroys Radio Station In Savannah

Hardin County, Tenn.—A lightning strike is the likely cause of a fire that destroyed the WDNX radio station in Savannah last night.
The Hardin County Fire Department extinguished the fire during a strong thunderstorm Tuesday night. Firefighters were dispatched to Lonesome Pine Road near the Harbert Hills Academy around 8:30 p.m. on a report of a building on fire.
Upon arrival, they discovered the building that houses the FM radio broadcast station WDNX 89.1 fully involved in fire. The fire was quickly extinguished. The 500 ft tower was not damaged but the building and all equipment was a total loss. The cause of the fire is a suspected lightning strike.
