Paris, Tenn.—A proposal to rename a section of Hwy. 69A as the “Sonny Melton Memorial Highway” will be on the agenda at Monday night’s Henry County Commission meeting.
The proposed resolution reads: “The Henry County and Big Sandy communities mourn the loss of Sonny Melton and wish to honor and preserve his memory, and whereas, in memory of the life of Sonny Melton and in honor of his heroism, the Henry County Board of Commissioners recommends that the portion of State Highway 69A S between the Paris bypass (State Hwy. 218) and Big Sandy” be renamed the Sonny Melton Memorial Highway.
Melton was killed in the Las Vegas mass shooting. He was an RN at Henry County Medical Center and died shielding his wife, Dr. Heather Gulish Melton.
The commissioners will meet in regular session at 5 p.m. Monday night, October 16, at the courthouse.
