Paris, Tenn.–The bridge on Rison Street will be closed to all through traffic starting tomorrow, Thursday, October 5, until further notice. Traffic will be detoured at Jones Bend Road Ext and the Johnson Park entrance.
A grant was awarded to the City of Paris some time ago to replace the bridge and construction plans are currently in the final stages of approval by TDOT. The bridge has been rated in poor condition for quite some time which is what qualified it for the grant.
City officials said, “We had hoped that the bridge would hold up until time for construction of the new one, but the most recent inspection showed significant deterioration. Its current condition has prompted TDOT to require it be closed immediately. How long this closure will last is unknown at this time. We will provide updates on a regular basis as we receive them from our engineers.”
Please plan an alternative route if you need to travel in this area. “We apologize for any inconvenience and appreciate your cooperation”, officials said.
