FLORENCE, Ala. – In action for the first time in 11 days, the University of Tennessee at Martin beach volleyball team could not find a rhythm today in 5-0 and 4-1 road setbacks at North Alabama.
The Skyhawks (6-4) received a victory from Kayla Bryant/Kayla Carrell out of the No. 5 slot in the second match of the double dual this afternoon. UT Martin battled throughout the day but ultimately that was the only victory the Skyhawks could produce on the day.
In the first match, Bryant/Carrell fell by a 21-11, 21-8 margin at No. 4 while Haeleigh Paulino/Ryan Rednour were defeated 21-16, 21-12 at No. 5. The duo of Dylan Mott/Logan Wallick filled the No. 1 slot but fell 21-13, 21-12. UT Martin’s lineup also included Kambree Lucas/Olivia O’Keefe at No. 2 and Lucy Kaufman/Addy Vaughn at No. 3 but those tandems came up just short via scores of 22-20, 21-13 and 21-16, 21-15, respectively.
Bryant/Carrell provided the Skyhawks with some early momentum in the backend of the double dual, scoring a 21-19, 21-12 triumph to improve to 2-1 on the season. However, Paulino/Jenna Vallée fell 21-13, 21-12 at No. 4 while Mott/Wallick were defeated at No. 1 by a 21-13, 21-18 margin. At No. 3, Kaufman/Vaughn fell 21-10, 21-8 while Lucas/O’Keefe were defeated 21-12, 21-15 at No. 2.
UT Martin returns to action this Saturday, March 18 with another double dual in Clarksville, Tenn. The Skyhawks will collide against Central Arkansas at noon before taking on Austin Peay at 2 p.m.
