Memphis NWS: Radar Down Due To Lightning Strike

nws-severe

Update on KNQA radar from the National Weather Service in Memphis:

“We think it is a hardware failure possibly caused by the lightning strike right near the dome early this morning. The bad news is that there’s not much our techs can do about it until the storms pass since it’s not safe to go up in the high voltage dome while it’s raining/lightning. Repairs will most likely take a day or two. We will have to rely on surrounding radars and TMEM for our warning operations today.”

Meanwhile, The Vale NOAA Weather Radio Station 162.450 MHz that serves Henry, Benton, Carroll and Weakley Counties announced last night that it is down and will not be available this evening. Residents can try changing to Mayfield 162.475 MHz or Waverly 162.400 MHz to receive Weather Warnings. Residents are urged to have multiple ways to receive weather warnings.
