Paris, Tenn.–Tornado sirens were sounded in Henry County early this morning as Tornado Warnings were issued from the National Weather Service.

Flooding in Henry County will continue to be a concern through the day today, but Henry County Emergency Management Agency Director Ron Watkins said this morning, “We’re fortunate. We dodged a bullet. We had a tornado warning, but no touchdown and no damage from that.”

Watkins said tornado sirens were sounded in the city of Paris, Henry, Paris Landing and Cottage Grove early this morning.

A Tornado Watch was issued at 9:22 p.m. Wednesday night, with a Tornado Warning issued for Henry County at 4:39 a.m. today. There have been no reports of a touchdown in the county, he said.

Flash flooding and high water is another story, however, with roadways experiencing flooding this morning: New Bethel Rd., Henry-Midway, Hwy. 54 near Como, Gate 3 Rd., Hwy. 54 near the Euro plant and Fairgrounds Rd. Watkins said there also is high water in the field across from Rhea Elementary School in Paris. There also are flooded storm drains on East Wood St. this morning, he said.

Watkins said the county’s tornado shelters were open last night at 8 p.m., but a decision was made to close them around 2:30 a.m. due to the diminished threat. “We confered with the Weather Service and sent the deputies home at that time,” he said.
