
Fulton County, Ky.–A Union City man was arrested on theft and attempted theft charges in Fulton County after a stolen 500-gallon propane tank was found on his property.
Corey Espeland of Wade Wiley Rd., Union City, and faces charges in both Kentucky and Tennessee.
In July, the Fulton County Sheriff’s Office was notified of an attempted theft of a 500-gallon propane tank on Grace Rd, in the Cayce area. Deputies responded to the residence that had been damaged during the 2021 tornado. The owner of the residence was living in another city at the time of the attempted theft.
During the investigation a person of interest was identified. As the investigation continued September 9, 2024, deputies received a call that drag marks were seen on Grace Road in the early morning hours. The person that called stated that the marks on the roadway were very recent. Deputies responded to the scene and discovered that the tank had been taken during the overnight hours.
The Obion County Sheriff’s Office was contacted about the theft. Deputies from the Fulton County Sheriff’s Office and the Obion County Sheriff’s Office went to the residence of Corey Espeland on Wade Wiley Road in Union City TN. Upon arrival Deputies located Espeland hiding behind a vehicle on the property and the stolen propane tank was found loaded on a trailer on the property.
While on the property Obion County deputies located other stolen items from thefts that occurred out of state. Espeland was taken into custody and will be facing numerous charges in TN. After court proceedings in TN Espeland will be brought to KY to be charged with the theft, which is a Class D felony.
