Anita Atkins Cobb, 93, passed away peacefully Sunday, April 21, 2024.

Anita was born Wednesday, October 8, 1930, in Stewart County, Tennessee, to Everett and Wilton Bryant Atkins.

She was educated in the Stewart County Schools and attended Austin Peay University, and Memphis State. She retired from the Shelby County school system as a teacher. She served as librarian at Volentine and Grahamwood schools. Anita treasured her relationships with the teachers she taught with throughout the years.

Anita was a dedicated member of First Baptist Church for over 70 years.

She was preceded in death by a daughter: Ann Atkins Cobb and her husband: Vinson, after 69 years of marriage; along with three brothers: Earl, Jim, and Billy Atkins.

She is survived by a loving daughter: Grace Susan Cotton (Orvie); a grandson: James Matthew Cotton (Christa); granddaughter: Nancy Elizabeth Robertson (Tyler); four wonderful great-grandchildren: Chloe and Bryce Cotton and Evie and William Robertson, one sister: Doris Cathy; and one brother: Arvel Atkins.

The family wishes to express gratitude to the caring staff at Belmont Senior Living who treated her with compassion and love.

A graveside service will be held at Smith Cemetery in Big Rock, Tennessee, Monday, April 29, 2024, at 11:00 am.

A memorial service will be held at Memorial Park Funeral Home and Cemetery, Memphis, Tennessee, Tuesday, April 30, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. with visitation beginning at 10:00 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be given to First Baptist Church Memphis or The American Cancer Society in Anita’s memory.
