Fort Donelson Plans Eclipse Activities Today

fort-d-eclipse

To share in what they hope to be a national park experience to remember, the Fort Donelson team will be hosting events and learning opportunities before the start of the eclipse. Fort Donelson National Battlefield is in Dover.
From 9  am to 1  pm at the River Batteries (Tour Stop #4) eclipse-related arts and crafts will be offered, as well as opportunities to learn exactly what an eclipse is, how and why they occur, and how to safely observe them. Those in attendance will receive a pair of special eclipse viewing glasses, distributed at the event site, while supplies last.
A popular opportunity during activity time will be the Eclipse Explorer Junior Ranger book and badge. The book is full of interactive activities and helps youth connect with the science and stories of this awesome astronomical event and understand how to view the eclipse safely. Upon completion of the required pages, the special badge is presented when the new Junior Ranger takes the Eclipse Explorer pledge.
In the unlikely event that we run out, or for those not on site on Monday, you can download the Eclipse Explorer booklet and enjoy the activities at home!
The official wooden badges are limited in number and will only be distributed on the day of the eclipse. For our park friends who complete the book after the event or from the downloaded version, we cannot handle mailed-in books and the mailing out of badges. The online version of the badge is an image on this post for printing.
