Union City, Tenn.–Students in Tom Sisco’s economics class had a special guest lecturer Tuesday.

U.S. Congressman David Kustoff made a stop at Union City High School to meet with a group of seniors on Tuesday, offering insight on government and economic issues to a class that has studied both topics this year.

Kustoff, who is serving his fourth term as representative of the 8th Congressional District in West Tennessee and was first elected in 2016, also expressed confidence in the young generation that will soon enter adulthood.

“You are the next generation, and I believe we have nothing to worry about,” Kustoff told the group at the conclusion of a session that featured a question/answer time. “Dig deep to find out what you’re interested in. You might not necessarily know that that is right now, but you will figure it out.

“In this country, we can dream. Be the best you can be. You guys can do anything you want to do.”

The congressman, who represents 19 other West Tennessee counties in addition to Obion, spoke of his duties and upcoming legislative votes. He touched on the current conflict between Israel and Hamas-led Palestinian military groups, saying “that nobody needs to live in fear of terrorists in this country or any other.”

Kustoff also informed students of at least one lucrative financial opportunity and said he was “intrigued” by AI (artificial intelligence) when a question was posed about the future job landscape for students.

“We’ve been through good and bad times. We will make it if we are focused,” he insisted.
