Dyer County Jailer Charged With Smuggling Contraband

DYERSBURG – A former Dyer County Correctional Complex employee faces a set of charges following an internal investigation by the Dyer County Criminal Investigation Division.
During a criminal inquiry, investigators uncovered illegal activity being perpetrated by a 43-year-old Correctional Employee Misty Scott in regards to smuggling contraband into the Dyer County Correctional Complex. Scott was relieved of her duties prior to starting her shift, interviewed by the Dyer County Investigators and Scott’s employment was immediately terminated by Sheriff Jeff Box and she was taken into custody.
Authorities booked Scott into the Dyer County Jail on charges of Introduction of contraband a Class C Felony and a $5,000.00 bond was set by Judge Jason Hudson. Scott was as able to make bond and General Sessions Court Date was set Dec 11th at 10am. This case will be prosecuted by District Attorney General Danny Goodman.
Sheriff Box said, “We do not condone the actions of Scott and we hold our correction and law enforcement staff to the highest of professional standards. We will not tolerate illegal and/or criminal behavior – even if they wear the uniform.”
Sheriff Box also commended his investigative team and said, “Our Criminal Investigative Division will continue to investigate similar reports of this type of activity and our leadership team will continue to evaluate all safeguards and security measures to eliminate the flow of contraband into the correctional facility.”
