Peggy Kemp Wimberley Owen, 88, of Paris, Tennessee, died Monday, September 4, 2023.

Peggy was born Monday, January 21, 1935, in the Jones Mill community of Henry County, to the late James Douglas Kemp and the late Arah Vaden Kemp.

She retired after 21 years as an administrator for the Henry County Election Commission.

She formerly worked for Commercial Bank in Paris for 21 years and for RE/MAX Cornerstone Real Estate for 10 years.

Peggy was a 39 plus year member of the Paris International Quota Club, where she served as President of the Paris chapter, and became Governor of the 23rd District, serving in this office for two years.  She was named Quotarian of the Year in 1993-1994.

Peggy was also a 50-year member of the Order of the Eastern Star, a charter member of the Cottage Grove Chapter, and then moved to the Paris Martha Chapter 155.

She was a longtime member of the United Methodist Church, first joining Calvary UMC in Paris.  Through the years, she was also a member of Cottage Grove UMC, Trinity UMC, where she taught Sunday school for 10 years, and Olive Branch UMC.  In 2020, Peggy was a part of a group that planted GraceLife Church of Paris, where she was a charter member.

She enjoyed fishing and loved to read in her spare time.

She was first married in 1953, to Franklin Elroy Wimberley, who preceded her in death in 1982.  She later married Bob Owen Sunday, August 1, 1999, who preceded her in death  Thursday, August 26, 1999.

She is survived by her son: Michael E. “Mike” (Tammy) Wimberley, of Buchanan, Tennessee; one sister: Jane Parrish of Paris; two grandchildren: Brandy (Greg) Taylor, of Ardmore, Alabama, and Ross (Callie) Wimberley, of Buchanan, Tennessee; two great grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild.

In addition to her parents and husbands, she was also preceded in death by two sons, Mitch Wimberley and Mark Wimberley; one sister, Beth Fields; and one brother-in-law, James Parrish.

Arrangements are being handled by Ridgeway Funeral Home, 201 Dunlap Street, Paris, TN, 38242. Visitation will be Thursday, September 7, 2023, from 3:00 pm – 6:00 pm at Ridgeway Funeral Home, and continue Friday, September 8, 2023, from 9:00 am – 11:00 am.  The funeral service will be Friday, September 8, 2023, at 11:00 am at Ridgeway Funeral Home with Mike Wimberley, Kenneth Humphreys, and Brian Wimberley officiating.

Serving as pallbearers will be Ross Wimberley, Christian Taylor, Garrett Rawlings, Rick Moody, Jay Smith, and Ron Vaden.

Burial will be in Olive Branch Cemetery in Cottage Grove, TN.
