Dyersburg, TN – On August 25, 2023, the Dyer County Sheriff’s Office responded to reports of a motor vehicle crash on the I-155 Mississippi River Bridge. Three vehicles were involved and each vehicle was occupied by only the driver. Prior to the crash, the Pemiscot County Sheriff’s Office and Dyer County Dispatch received a report of a vehicle driving the wrong direction of travel.
Upon arrival, Dyer County Deputies, Medical Center EMS, Caruthersville Fire, Pemiscot Deputies, and Caruthersville PD assisted the patients at the scene. One driver was transported to Dyersburg Hospital and subsequently flown to Regional One Health in Memphis, TN, one driver had no injuries, and another driver was pronounced dead at the scene by the Dyer County Medical Examiner’s Office.
Authorities are withholding the identity of the decedent at this time pending notification of the next of kin.
At this time, it can not be determined which vehicle, if any, was truly traveling in the wrong direction. Therefore, we are withholding judgment until the THP C.E.R.T. Team, who are the crash reconstruction experts, are able to establish all of the facts in this crash.
Dyer County Sheriff’s Office certainly extend our sympathy to the family and remember all those involved in our prayers.
