At Union City Schools, Kindness Rocks!

Union City, Tenn.–Kindness Rocks!

Students in Julie Morgan’s third-grade class recently got a refresher of that belief from reading Scribble Stones, a book that promotes happiness and inclusion.

They’ve also put that lesson in motion with a class project that will spread that positivity to others.

A heartwarming story about a little stone that was able to spread kindness to the world, Scribble Stones begins with a small stone who thinks he will become something amazing. He soon realizes, though, that he has become a dull paperweight.

He then goes on a mission to become something greater and, in the process, meets Scribble and Splatter. Together, they all devise a creative way to bring joy to thousands of people.

After reading and discussing the book, class members put their own personal painting touches on kindness rocks that will become part of the landscape area entering Tiny Tornado Academy and on the new UCES playground.

“It’s a story that essentially promotes happiness,” insisted Morgan, a veteran UC Elementary School teacher. “It’s about taking something simple and plain and making it into happiness to spread to others.

“We talk a lot about how our class is like a family and, over the course of a school year, I truly believe that is the case. At Union City Schools, we’re all family, and we naturally want everyone in our family to be happy.”
