By Ryne Rickman, UT Martin Sports Information Director

MARTIN, Tenn. – The University of Tennessee at Martin athletic department has announced the addition of Davis Gregory as broadcaster for the Skyhawk Sports Network. He will serve as the primary play-by-play voice for UT Martin football and men’s basketball broadcasts on ESPN+ and radio.

Gregory will team up with Chris Brinkley, broadcasting coordinator and the longtime “Voice of the Skyhawks”, as the primary duo for all UT Martin athletic events broadcast across the Skyhawk Sports Network (television, live-streaming, radio).

“I am excited to welcome Davis to our team,” UT Martin Vice Chancellor and Director of Athletics Kurt McGuffin said. “He is a talented and well-prepared storyteller with a genuine and authentic passion for Skyhawk Athletics. Together, Davis and Chris will complement each other tremendously on the air with diverse styles, tied together by professionalism, preparation and passion for our product.”

Gregory, who will begin his duties Aug. 1, graduated from UT Martin last spring and served as the Sports Director at the campus radio station WUTM 90.3 “The Hawk” for three years. During his tenure, the Knoxville native brought home numerous awards for the station. Two of the most notable are the Intercollegiate Broadcasting System awards for “Best Play-by-Play – Other” for his call of the 2022 UT Martin Rodeo and “Best Play-by-Play for a Men’s Basketball Game” for his call of the Skyhawks’ contest against Eastern Illinois in 2021.

“This is a true blessing, and I’m incredibly excited to continue to call Martin home,” Gregory said. “To be able to call games for my alma mater is something I take great pride in. I want to thank Kurt McGuffin and Ryan Menley for this opportunity to serve the community, coaches and student-athletes at UT Martin. With my broadcasting style, I hope to make people as excited as I am about UT Martin. This really is a dream come true, and I can’t wait for August 1st.”

In his four years at WUTM radio, Gregory called UT Martin and Westview High School football and basketball games. In 2021, he was a part of the broadcasting team that covered the TSSAA 2A Blue Cross Bowl State Championship Game where the Westview Chargers captured their first football state title.

Over the past two years, Gregory has helped call UT Martin baseball and softball games on ESPN+. In 2022, Gregory helped the athletics department win the Ohio Valley Conference’s Program of Excellence “Call of the Game” award for his play-by-play description of Casey Harford’s record-setting third home run of the day against Tennessee Tech.

In his new position, Gregory will be the sports information contact for the Skyhawk soccer, cross country, track and field and baseball programs. Additionally, the Knoxville, Tenn. native will serve as the lead announcer for UT Martin football, men’s basketball, baseball, softball, volleyball and soccer productions on ESPN+.
