HCHS Fishing Teams Qualify For Nationals

Paris, Tenn.–At the end of a hard-fought tournament on Douglass Lake this weekend, two Henry County High School fishing teams qualified for the Nationals.

The two-men teams of Caiden Ellis and Gage Byars and Jesse Klutts and Ben Puckett qualified for Nationals, which will be held at Lake Hartwell in South Carolina at the end of July. This will mark Ellis and Byars’ third Nationals appearance and this will be Klutts and Puckett’s first appearance representing HCHS at the Nationals. Coach Kandi Ellis said, “They will be fishing against the best of the best from across the U.S.”

The Tennessee Bass Nation 2023 Commissioner’s Cup High School State Tournament was held over the weekend on Douglass Lake in Dandridge, Tenn. Ellis said thee were roughly 200 teams competing in the tournament. “Super proud of these kiddos and all their hard work this season,” she said.

The teams that qualified for the Nationals were announced at the weigh-in Saturday afternoon.

 Also competing from HCHS were Drake Cannon and Remington Lowe and Kyzer Gordon and Phillip Myrick.
