James M. “Jim” Parrish

James M. “Jim” Parrish, 97 of Paris, Tennessee, died Tuesday, October 25, 2022, at his residence.

Jim was born Friday, September 25, 1925, in Cottage Grove, Tennessee, to the late Graden A. Parrish and the late Maude Nichols Parrish. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by two sons: Kenneth Joe Parrish, who died in infancy and Phillip Parrish, who died in 2003; one sister: Ruth Parrish; and one brother: Bill Parrish.

He was a member of Temple Baptist Church, Paris, Tennessee.  He served as a deacon in several local Baptist churches. Over the years he served as Sunday School Superintendent at Temple Baptist Church and Fairview Baptist Church. Jim retired from Pepsi Cola here in Paris. He was a newspaper carrier for the Paris Post Intelligencer for several years where he won carrier of the year several times. Jim was also World War II Army Veteran.

He was married Saturday, June 17, 1950, to Jane Kemp Parrish, who survives of Paris, Tennessee.

He is survived by one daughter: Jennifer (Steve) Thurmond, of Springville, Tennessee; one sister-in-law: Peggy Kemp Owen, of Paris, Tennessee; two grandchildren: James (Jolene) Smith, and Samantha (Jimmy) Napier; and seven great-grandchildren: Tommy Smith, Hunter Smith, Jake Smith, Taylor Finkelman, Billie (Blake) Barrett, Cameron Napier, and Kaitlyn Napier.

Arrangements are being handled by Ridgeway Funeral Home, 201 Dunlap Street/PO Box 788, Paris, Tennessee, 38242.  A graveside service will be held Thursday, October 27, 2022, at 2:00 PM at Walker Cemetery.

Serving as pallbearers will be James Smith, Hunter Smith, Jake Smith, Ross Wimberley, Rick Moody and Don Parker. Honorary pallbearers will be Avalon Hospice, Gaylon Morris, Everett Moody, and Buddy Kemp.

Burial will be in Walker Cemetery in Paris, Tennessee.
