Dover, Tenn.–Stewart County deputies and supervisors continue to train at the local schools in preparation for the new school year.

This past week the Special Response Team (SRT), Deputies and School Resource Officers (SRO) all participated in training they hope they never have to use, according to Sheriff Frankie Gray.

The Sheriff’s Office Special Response Team trained in both the Middle and Dover Elementary Schools last week for an active shooter event. The SRT trains monthly and often trains in one of the four county schools.

On Thursday and Friday, SROs and Deputies went to Trigg County for two days of training on Active Shooter Response. Along with the School Resource Officers were three principals and one assistant principal from Stewart County Schools.

Training consisted of in-class as well as scenario training in Trigg County High.

Gray said, “We want to thank Cadiz Police Department and their Chief Duncan Wiggins, members of Trigg County Sheriff’s Office, US Forest Service Capt. Donnie Dill and all others who helped put this training on. Also thumbs up to SCHS Principal Tammy Gray, DES Principal Bryan Saunders, NSE Principal Tara Page and Assistant Middle School Principal Jessica Crutcher for going through the training. As the start of school gets closer the Sheriff’s Office wants every parent to know that we are working with every school to assure their child will be safe as possible.”
