Como, Tenn.–A new Dollar General Store is under construction in Como and is expected to open in the fall.
Dollar General officials confirmed to RadioNWTN Tuesday that the new store is being built at 10319 Hwy. 54 and that the store opening is slated for fall 2022.
The store will employ approximately 6-10 employees, depending on the individual needs of the store, they said. They noted the construction progress may depend on whether or other factors.

Dollar General officials said, “Our customers are at the center of all that we do, and meeting customers’ needs is Dollar General’s top priority when choosing store locations. In selecting store sites, we take a number of factors into consideration, carefully evaluating each potential new store location to ensure we can continue to meet our customers’ price, value and selection needs. We further strive to provide convenience for customers who may not have affordable nearby retail options.”
Forbes magazine published an article in May spotlighting the proliferation of Dollar General Stores in small towns in an article titled, “Dollar General is Spreading like Hot Gossip in Tiny Towns Across the Country.”
According to the article, “Quietly, Dollar General has become the biggest U.S. retailer by number of outlets, and the company continues to spread like hot gossip across tiny-town America, opening roughly three new stores a day, many of them in places that real estate experts say couldn’t support any other kind of retailer. Its 18,000-plus locations are more than McDonald’s, Starbucks or CVS, putting it within five miles of 75% of the population. This year, it will open another 1,100 stores and plans to nearly double its store count.”
In Henry County, there are three Dollar General stores in Paris, one in Henry, one in Puryear and one in Buchanan. Another Dollar General store recently opened in Hazel, Ky., just across the state line.
