Henry, Tenn.–The Henry Volunteer Fire Department was busy–and hot–Wednesday evening as they extinguished scattered grass fires along Hwy. 79S.
The department was dispatched initially at 6 p.m. on a report of a grass fire in the area of Skunk Hollow Rd. While en route, they noticed additional fires on the side of the road around Mockingbird Avenue and Pioneer Road.
The McKenzie Fire Department arrived to the Skunk Hollow Rd. fire, and Henry firefighters diverted back to the other scattered fires along 79.
The cause of the fire was determined to be a brake system failure, which scattered burning metal all down the highway, igniting the dry grass. Henry fire officials thanked the Henry Police and McKenzie Fire Department for their help.
