MARTIN, Tenn. – Two Tennessee Governor’s Schools return in June to the University of Tennessee at Martin’s main campus following last year’s virtual sessions. The program will return to largely in-person gatherings with virtual options. The Tennessee Governor’s School for the Agricultural Sciences runs May 29 – June 25, and the Tennessee Governor’s School for the Humanities runs June 6 – July 2.
Both programs bring selected high school students from across the state to UT Martin to take college courses and participate in a variety of activities. Interested students must complete an application process and receive an invitation to attend. The Tennessee Governor’s School for the Agricultural Sciences has 31 in-person participants and four virtual, and the Tennessee Governor’s School for the Humanities anticipates 51 to attend and eight virtual participants.
The Tennessee Governor’s School for the Agricultural Sciences, founded in 2004, exposes students to courses in natural resource management and animal science and provides opportunities for hands-on interactions with working crop and livestock operations.
The Tennessee Governor’s School for the Humanities, founded in 1986, is the original governor’s school program. Participating students may receive college credit in art history, political science or philosophy and choose from additional non-credit courses in English literature, history, music and a selection of four enrichment seminar activities.
