CAMDEN — Thanks to Benton County Sheriff’s Office K-9 Bojangles and his handler Deputy Chris Richard, four juveniles who escaped from a mental health facility in Arkansas were captured in southern Benton County Tuesday.
Benton Co. Sheriff Kenny Christopher said the four stole a vehicle after their escape and the THP notified the sheriff’s office that the car had been tracked to Benton County.
Deputies chased the car to the I-40 area and used spike strips to stop the vehicle. One juvenile was caught on the scene and the other three fled on foot.
Christopher said the THP deployed their helicopter to help with the search and Deputy Richard and Bojangles arrived. The K9 “Bo” picked up their scent and tracked them for three miles, even through woods and a creek. “Bo stayed on their track even though the juveniles were running back and forth through the creek and he stayed right with them,” he said.
The three were caught by Richard and “Bo” and the THP took them into custody.
“Bo” is a five-six year old bloodhound and “he does a fantastic job”, Christopher said.
