Union City, Tenn.–The Union City girls’ tennis team blitzed Huntingdon 7-0 Tuesday for its fourth straight victory.

UC is now 6-6 on the season heading into Thursday’s district match at Greenfield.

The UC boys were on the other end of that 7-0 score against the Mustangs.

Bryce White put up a good fight before dropping an 8-6 decision in singles play, and both Gavin Pledge and Kobe Terrell won four games in their respective matches.

HIGH SCHOOL SOCCER

McKenzie 3, UC 2 (OT)

A gritty Tornado squad that was missing a key starter due to sickness battled back from a 2-0 halftime deficit to force overtime before dropping a heartbreaker.

Union City is now 3-3 overall.

“I told the guys after the match that we had nothing to hang our heads about,” UC head coach Travis VanHooser said. “We showed the one thing that can’t be coached, and that’s heart.”

Chandler Adams had both Tornado goals – the first assisted by Marcos Landros and the second by Juan Lopez. Ka’Jaylon Bell recorded five saves in goal.

Union City will host Dyer County Thursday at 6 p.m.

HIGH SCHOOL BASEBALL

Milan 11, UC 1

The Tornadoes saw their three-game winning streak snapped and fell to 8-12 overall, 1-4 in District 12-AA play.

UC managed just two hits – singles by Ben Kail and Kyler Southerland – and was guilty of four errors that led to four unearned runs.

Milan built on an early 2-0 lead with a six-run third to break things open.

UC scored its only run in the fifth with Southerland coming home on a two-out hit by Kail.

Landon Hauhe, the first of four Twister pitchers, was charged with the loss. The visiting Bulldogs coaxed 11 walks from the UC staff, making the most out of their five hits.

The two teams will play again today in Milan at 5 p.m.

HIGH SCHOOL SOFTBALL

Westview 9, UC 0

Union City was blanked for the second day in a row and fell to 10-9 on the season.

Marlee Theobald had two of the Lady Tornadoes’ four hits with Emmaline Qualls and Anna Cheatham also credited with singles.

District-leading Martin – which won its seventh straight – scored five times in the first inning, highlighted by a grand slam.

Anna Cheatham was tagged with the pitching loss.

Union City will celebrate Senior Night Thursday when Bradford visits Graham Park.

MIDDLE SCHOOL SOCCER

Huntingdon 6, UC 1

Juan Carlos Barron scored the Tornadoes’ lone goal in the second half, taking a feed from Adrian Crawford before finding the net.

Rachel McClanahan had a shot on goal and a corner kick for UC.

Tornado head coach Jason Deem singled out Silverio Acevedo and Brandt Huffstutter for their efforts in the contest.

Union City will play at Henry County Thursday and at Obion County on Friday.

MIDDLE SCHOOL BASEBALL

  1. Gibson 22-11, UC 0-0

The Tornadoes were on the wrong end of a big score in both games at Medina Tuesday, dropping their record to 4-12.

Union City failed to collect a hit in either game.

Thursday’s regular-season finale at TCA in Jackson has already been canceled.

The Twisters will play in the Northwest Tennessee Conference Tournament next week.
