Much-Needed Stewart Co. Sheriff’s Office ATV Paid With Property Seized From Drug Offenders

stew-co-atv

Dover, Tenn.–A much-needed ATV has arrived at the Stewart County Sheriff’s Office.
The new Ranger XP 1000 purchased by the Sheriff’s Office was delivered on Tuesday January 11 and Sheriff Frankie Gray said this vehicle will assist the Sheriff’s Office on calls in certain areas of the county that cannot be reached by a regular 4X4 vehicle.
Gray said, “It also should be noted that the $20,000 ATV was paid for from proceeds from property and funds seized by drug offenders in Stewart County. The Sheriff’s Office has purchased two other vehicles, one1 for patrol and one for the Detention Center to transport prisoners, this past budget year all with money from drug arrest. This has saved the taxpayers approximately $60,000.”
Gray said the Sheriff’s Office has needed such a vehicle in the past few years with incidents such as the Kirby Wallace manhunt and three other such incidents. Deputies also had to respond to injured or lost individuals in remote areas.
In the past the Sheriff’s Office has had to depend on assistance from other agencies for such a vehicle or often no such vehicle was available, but either way it was time consuming.
The vehicle can also be used for deploying the SRT Team as well as K-9 and other deputies and special events.
Once the ATV receives its emergency equipment and Sheriff’s Office decals, it will be ready for use.
