The McKenzie Rebels continued their winning ways on Friday night although looking at the stat sheets Peabody looked like they should have won the game.  But as everyone knows the stat sheet isn’t as important as the scoreboard as the Rebels held off the Golden Tide of Peabody by a final score of 36-30 to advance to the Division 1 Single A State Tournament game next weekend against South Pittsburgh High School.

Jackson Cassidy had 157 yards passing on the night Marquez Taylor had 60 rushing yards and 145 receiving yards on the night.  Peabody ran a total of 61 yards for 402 yards on the night while the Rebels had 46 plays for 313 yards.  Peabody had 3 turnovers in the game with 1 fumble lost and 2 interceptions.  McKenzie had no fumbles and no interceptions.

Taylor started the scoring for the Rebels with a 33 yard pass reception from Jackson Cassidy and Zach Aird added the point after.  Peabody would score twice more to take a 14 to 7 lead but Marquez Taylor would catch a 61 yard touchdown pass at the end of the first quarter 14 – 14.  Taylor would run for 22 yards for the 3rd touchdown of the game and Aird again would complete the P.A.T. to put the Rebels on top  20 – 14.  Aird would add a 39 yard field goal to make it 23-14 but Khalik Ganaway would run for a 45 yard touchdown; the extra point try would fail and McKenzie would lead 23 to 20 at half time.
Marquez Taylor would run for a 7 yard touchdown in the third quarter and the Rebels would go for two that failed but they would lead 29-20.  Peabody would score again and complete the point after to cut the lead to 2 at 29-27.  But once again Marquez Taylor would cap off a drive from 3 yards out for the lead of 35-27 and Aird would add the extra point to make the lead 3-27.  Peabody would score a field goal late in the game and cut the lead to 36-30 and driving toward a game tieing score and opportunity to take the lead with the point after but the Rebel defense would stiffen and hold off the effort.
With the win the Rebels go to 14-0 and will take on the South Pittsburgh Pirates in the state championship next weekend.  Congratulations to the McKenzie Rebels as they advance to next weeks Championship game with a victory tonight 36 to 30 over Peabody High School.
