Paris, Tenn.–Former Henry County Emergency Services Director Mike Shankle passed away Monday at Henry County Medical Center. Shankle was 63.

Shankle retired in 2013 after 23 years as Director and had served for many years on the Henry County 911 board. He received the Henry County Loyal Patriot Award when he retired, which is the highest honor that can be bestowed by the county.

Henry County Mayor Brent Greer said, “Mike was a tremendous public servant through his EMS service, his 911 service and his dedication to various boards and organizations. Actually, I think he was the ultimate public servant. He took care of those he worked with and those he served. He was just an excellent leader.”

911 Director Mark Archer said he treasures the time he spent working with and knowing Shankle. “When I came on board, he was one of my main sources of guidance. He mentored me and guided me and was also always there as a friend. He was such a pleasure to be around and I’ll be forever thankful that the Lord brought him into my life. I was definitely blessed to have known him.”

Funeral services at Ridgeway Funeral Home are incomplete at this time and will be announced when complete.
