UC Schools Begin Level 3 Instruction Next Week

uc-schools

By Mike Hutchens, UC Schools Communications Director

Union City, Tenn.–Union City Schools will take things to a “new level” Monday.

After a week of getting acquainted and mixing in-person classes with distance learning, UC students will continue the education process with a hybrid plan identified as Level 3 in the system’s reopening plan for the 2020-21 school year.

Union City Elementary School students will attend in-person classes five days a week. Pre-K, kindergarten, 1st-graders and 2nd-graders will remain on campus and spread out over several rooms left vacant by the 3rd and 4th grades moving over to UC High School for classes.

Middle School students will attend in-person classes on their campus two days a week at half-capacity, with two days of distance learning.

UCHS students will come once-a-week with half-capacity classrooms and will distance learn three days a week.

Fridays will be referred to as “Flex” days at the Middle School and High School and will afford students the opportunity to contact teachers and set up times for distance or in-person learning.

The following are some particulars of the new plan at each campus.

UCES

Drop-off times for 3rd- and 4th-graders at Union City Civic Auditorium will be from 7:05 until 7:55 a.m. Parents are asked to follow the clearly-marked path, that will include signs and cones. Drop-off times for PreK-2nd Grade on the UC Elementary School campus will also be 7:05-7:55.

In the afternoon, PreK students will be dismissed at 2:25. Kindergartners can be picked up at 2:35, with 1st- and 2nd-graders along with bus riders being dismissed at 2:45.

Bus riders and car riders in the 3rd and 4th grades can be picked up at 2:45 in front of the UC Civic Auditorium, using the same route as the morning.

Classes for 3rd- and 4th-graders will be held in several places on the UCHS campus, including the Civic Auditorium, the gymnasium, the library and a handful of other classrooms.

UCMS

Students with last names from A-L will receive in-person instruction on Mondays and Wednesdays. Those with last names beginning M-Z will have on-campus classes on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

On the days students are not in a traditional learning setting, they will receive distance learning instruction from each of their teachers.

Fridays will be a “Flex” day with any student able to request either in-person or distance learning help by making an appointment with their teacher(s). Teachers may also request students to come to school for help.

Tutoring — to be determined — will be available to students either before or after school.

Arrival and departure times will remain the same as last year for UCMS students, the tardy bell ringing at 7:55 a.m., with school dismissal set for 3 p.m.

UCHS

Students whose last names begin M-Z will attend in-person classes on Tuesdays. Those whose names begin A-L will be in class on campus on Wednesdays.

They will receive distance learning work and assignments on the days they are not receiving in-person instruction.

Fridays will be a “Flex” day, with any student able to request either in-person or distance learning help by making an appointment with their teacher(s). Tutoring will be available before school on the day students are in class and will be by arrangement or appointment with their teachers on the days they distance learn.

Arrival and departure times will remain the same as last year — the tardy bell ringing at 7:40 a.m., with classes dismissing at 2:45 p.m.
