oc-schools-field

Union City, Tenn.–At a special meeting Wednesday night, the Obion County Schools board of education unanimously approved delaying the start of the 2020-2021 school year until August 17. The original start date for the school year was August 4.

Under the new calendar, district students will be in school for fair day August 25, but if a student is showing livestock and required to be at the fair, it will be counted as an excused absence.

The delay comes after significant increases in Obion County COVID-19 cases over the past week.

School officials also cited the need for additional training in remote learning by district staff.

Earlier, Union City Schools also made the decision to delay the start date until August 17.
