McKenzie, Tenn.–Through the years Bethel Coach Chris Nelson has recruited all over the nation but has always taken great pride in recruiting local players to his women’s basketball program. The list of those players and their contributions is endless.

Nelson announced Monday another local product who is staying close to home. Dresden High School guard Rachel Childress signed with the Lady Cats and joins former Lady Lion Millie Bryant on the roster.

Childress is a member of the 1,000 point club, scoring 1, 055 points at DHS. She had 203 assists and 230 steals during her prep career. This past season Rachel averaged 13.5 points, 3.3 rebounds, 2.1 assists, and 2.7 steals per game. She shot 81 percent from the free throw line.

The all-district performer will major in Health and Human Performance and is the daughter of John and Becky Childress of Dresden.

Coach Nelson commented, “Rachel is another good local product that will fit well with our team. She comes from a winning program that is used to hard work and toughness. She will be a great addition to our back court.”
