McKenzie, Tenn. – The Bethel Wildcats signed McKenzie High School Basketball Standout Lucas King Friday. Lucas is the son of Angie Wainscott and Scottie King of McKenzie and will major in Business Administration.
The three year starter for the Rebels averaged 18.2 points and three assists per game this past season. He shot 45 percent from behind the three-point arc and 92 percent from the free throw line. Those numbers enabled him to be named the West Tennessee Player of the Year and a TSSAA Mr. Basketball Finalist. The TSSAA All-State performer was named MVP of the district for the second straight time.
King averaged almost 16 points, three assist and four rebounds per game during his prep career.
King feels his biggest strengths are his ability to shoot and his playmaking skills.
Off the court Lucas was a member of the Minority Club at MHS.
McKenzie Coach John Wilkins said he was excited for his all-state player. “I’m excited for Lucas to get an opportunity to play at the next level at Bethel University. Lucas is a tremendous young man with a strong work ethic. Lucas is a gym rat who spends as much time as he can working on his game. Local fans will be blessed and excited to get to watch him play the next four years.”
Bethel Head Coach Jeff Britt said, “We are excited to have Lucas join our program, he has worked very hard during his High school career, and I look forward to working with him and seeing his growth as a student and athlete with our program.”
