Skeletal Remains May Be That Of Missing Graves County Woman

Graves County, Ky.–The Graves County Sheriff’s Office has reported the discovery of skeletal remains in a rural area near the Sedalia community. Sheriff Jon Hayden said the remains appear to be two to three years old and belong to an adult.

While definite identification has not yet been made, Hayden noted there was a missing person’s report made in in 2017 of an adult female identified as 53-year-old Lynette McCollum of Love Lane. Deputies have met with McCollum’s family to update them on the discovery.

On Thursday March 12, at approximately 3 p.m., Sheriff Jon Hayden was notified of the possible discovery of human skeletal remains in a rural area just north of the Sedalia community.

Graves Sheriff’s deputies and detectives responded to an area on Love Lane and confirmed the reported discovery. The Graves County Coroners Office also responded to the scene.

Human skeletal remains were located in a wooded area. The scene was secured and held until the investigation at the scene was completed and the recovery of evidence concluded on Friday evening around 8 p.m., some 29 hours later.

The Graves County Sheriff’s Office was assisted at the scene by the Kentucky State Police, Graves County Coroner’s Office, and the University of Tennessee Knoxville Anthropology Center, who contracts with the Kentucky Medical Examiner’s Office.

The remains appear to have been two to three years old, and belonging to an adult. An autopsy and examination are planned to be performed by the Kentucky Medical Examiners Office in an attempt to determine the identity of the deceased as well as manner of death.

A definitive identification has not been made as of this date.

On June 15, 2017, there was a missing person’s report made of an adult female identified as being 53 year old Lynette McCollum of Love Lane. An investigation was opened into her disappearance at that time. She had not been found and her missing persons status continues.

Sheriff’s investigators and the Coroners office have met with Lynette McCollum’s family yesterday and today updating them on this recent discovery.

There has been no date given as to when the examination and autopsy will be completed at this time.
