By Shannon McFarlin News Director

Cottage Grove, Tenn.–An abandoned car was destroyed in a fire outside of Cottage Grove early Friday morning.

Cottage Grove Volunteer Firefighters were called to 480 Jim Hunt Rd. around 2:30 a.m. and found a two-door sedan in a field driveway. Fire Chief John Weiher said, “It was beyond fully engulfed when we arrived.”

No one was in or anywhere around the car, Weiher said. “Everything that would identify the car was gone by the time we got there. The license plate was burned off. We couldn’t find a VIN number.”

The Henry County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the incident.

Firefighters were on the scene for around 45 minutes, he said.
