Huntingdon Insurance Rating Improves

Huntingdon, Tenn.–The town of Huntingdon has received good news which will have a positive impact on homeowners.
Mayor Dale Kelley and Public Safety Director Walter Smothers announced that Huntingdon’s insurance rating has again improved. Huntingdon is now classified with a Public Protection Classification of 03. Prior to the latest review by the ISO (Insurance Services Office), Huntingdon was classified as 04.
Smothers explained, “The ISO rating is a calculation of how well equipped and trained fire departments are to put out fires in their community. The lower the number, the better equipped and trained the fire department is to respond to fires. Insurance companies use this rating to help set homeowners’ insurance rates as well as commercial property rates. This lower rating indicates buildings and homes in our town are less likely to be lost to a fire and therefore less expensive to insure, resulting in savings for the owners.”
When Mayor Kelley first took office as Mayor in 1992, the town was rated at 07, Smothers said. “Since that date we have steadily continued to improve to our present rating of 03 and our sights are set on obtaining an 02 in our next evaluation five years from now. We appreciate the dedication of the members of our Fire & Rescue Department as we look towards the future in serving our citizens.”
