Paris Rotary Holds Weekend Backpack Collection

Paris, Tenn.–The Paris Rotary Club will once again raise awareness and money for the local  Weekend Backpack Program with a collection at local stores on Saturday, August 17.
The weekend backpack provides Pre-K thru 2nd graders with nutritional snacks each weekend in their backpack. The bags are placed in backpacks in a very discreet manner at the schools each Friday.  The goal is to provide enough food for a portion or all of the 3rd grade.
On Saturday, August 17th, Rotary Club members will be out in full force at area grocery stores helping and asking shoppers to purchase some food to donate to the program. Members will be at Sav-A-Lot, Walmart, Cash-Savers, Lakeway IGA, Kroger, and Dollar General Stores in Paris.
Shoppers will be given lists of items as they go in the store and anything purchased can be brought back out and given to the Rotary Club members. Donations will be accepted at the stores Saturday from 8 am to 3 pm.
Items needed for the backpack program: Peanut Butter, 6 pks of apple sauce, individual mac and cheese packs, pop tarts, ravioli, fruit cups, granola bars, cheez-itz, goldfish cracker packs; peanut butter or cheese and crackers, and Teddy Grahams. Monetary Donations are also accepted.
Rotary Club members will be live on air Friday morning August 16th on Forever Communications Station WMUF 104.7FM from 7 a.m. to 11 a.m. to discuss the weekend backpack program and tell about their plans for Saturday.
