History Of Old 23rd District On Program Of Historical Society Meeting

Paris, Tenn.–The history of the Old 23rd District will be on the program of the Henry County Historical Society’s regular meeting at 6 p.m. Thursday, August 1st at the Paris-Henry County Heritage Center, 614 N. Poplar St. in Paris.
Susan “Ski” Witzofski, retired from TVA and Vice President of the Friends of the Tennessee Wildlife Refuge, will be the featured speaker.
Much of the former Henry County 23rd voting district became part of the Tennessee National Wildlife Refuge system after the creation of Kentucky Lake in 1945. The Big Sandy Peninsula includes the 1897 Mt. Zion Church building that was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1974.
Members and visitors are encouraged to bring photographs, artifacts, memories, and stories from the Old 23rd to share. The society will elect its officers for the 2019-20 year, and $10 annual membership dues will be collected. The public is invited.
