J.T.'s General Store To Close; Only Store In Cottage Grove Community

By Shannon McFarlin News Director
Cottage Grove, Tenn.–JT’s General Store in Cottage Grove will be closing in two weeks and it is a loss which will be difficult for the small community.
Cottage Grove is the smallest incorporated town in Tennessee, with a population of 88 at the time of the 2010 census.
JT’s General Store is the only store in the community and was a much-needed addition when it opened a few years ago in the former bank building in the heart of town. The store was named for the late J.T. Rainey, former bank president.
Co-owner Carl Wood told WENK/WTPR the decision was a difficult one. “We didn’t want to, but we had to for business reasons. We never really broke even and we couldn’t keep up with price increases and you can’t get deliveries out there.”
On the store’s Facebook page, the owners posted this message: “When there is a loss in our community it affects all of us in one way or another. It is with a sad and broken heart I have to announce that JT’s General Store in downtown Cottage Grove will be closing its doors in 2 weeks. We once again would like to thank our community for the support and the opportunity to serve you. God Bless each and everyone of you and again it has been our pleasure to be able to serve you. Please stop by and say hi. ”
The store’s second Trade Day will still be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, June 15.
If anyone is interested in purchasing the store information can be received by calling 615-406-7686.
