Union City, Tenn.–Some of Union City High School’s best and brightest students will be recognized at the 34th annual UCHS Academic Top 10 Banquet Monday night.
Ten students from each class who have the highest grade-point-average over the first three nine-weeks grading periods for the 2018-19 school year will be recognized at the banquet, which will be held in the commons area of Union City High School.
Ronald H. Filler, a 1966 graduate of UCHS and a distinguished New York Law School professor and philanthropist, will be the guest speaker at the event, which is open only to those honored students, their parents and sponsors of the banquet.
Filler has funded more than 100 scholarships to the University of Illinois and several more to students at the NYLS while also offering mentorships to those and other students.
He is set to share how his Union City Schools education and small-town upbringing played a vital part to his successful big-city professional life.
Among those UCHS students to be honored and recognized for their academic standing for the 2018-19 school year include:
SENIORS
Austin Atwill, Chloe Cook, Will Hogan, Kendraya Maddox, Brad Schlager, Dawson Searcy, Will Suiter, Claire Tanner, Claire Thomason, Jacob Virgin.
JUNIORS
Hudson Calfee, Briley Coffey, Caroline Conley, Reice Gray, Kyle Herrell, Blade Johnson, Trey Smith, Sam Theobald, Haley Thomas, Davie Townes.
SOPHOMORES
Grace Baker, Dalton Bone, Elijah Cavalier, Alexander Cox, Alyssa Fields, Tammy Huynh, Ben Martinek, Ben McMillan, Gabriel Qualls, Leah Wisener.
FRESHMEN
Kamia Cross, Emily Fields, Hope Kennedy, Elizabeth Lattus, Silas Petty, Arden Stanley, Olivia Tanner, Kobe Terrell, Sara Ullrich, Annie Wade.
Filler will be the latest distinguished speaker and Purple and Gold graduate to address the honorees and will join a list that includes previous speakers Bill Latimer, Jon Robinson, Stephen Vaden, Ronald Kirkland, John Drerup, Robert Kirkland and Col. Tom Elam, among others.
Monday’s banquet is set to begin at 6:30 p.m.
