MURRAY, Ky. — A transfer agreement between Murray State University and West Kentucky Community and Technical College took place at the Murray State Paducah Regional Campus. The partnership, coordinated between the University’s public and community health program and WKCTC’s medical information technology program, will provide students pursuing a bachelor’s degree with a seamless transfer of credits into Murray State’s public and community health program.
In addition to the transfer agreement signing, there was a celebration reception and an interactive health professions fair involving the allied health programs at WKCTC, programs in the School of Nursing and Health Professions at Murray State, and community partners, such as the Living Colon, Lotus, Baptist Health and Mercy Health Lourdes Hospital.
“The event was well attended, with representatives from regional high schools, high school students interested in pursuing careers in the health field, alumni, current students, community members and community partners, such as the Jackson Purchase Medical Center,” said Dr. Miranda Terry, chair of the Murray State University Department of Applied Health Sciences and director of the public and community health program. “It was great to feel the energy in the room during this exciting time. It has taken three years to get this transfer agreement in place. To see this amazing opportunity come to fruition for our students and strengthen the collaborations across the region left me and (WKCTC Medical Information Technology Program Coordinator) Jo Ann Knapp speechless and awestruck.”
WKCTC Dean of Allied Health and Personal Services Carrie Hopper added, “The event was another excellent opportunity to see two premiere higher educational institutions working together to benefit students in health care,” she said. “West Kentucky Community and Technical College and Murray State University creating this seamless transition for our graduates to pursue a bachelor’s degree is exciting, and by the turnout at the event, this is going to be an exciting opportunity for many students. This educational opportunity will provide students the opportunity to receive a top education from two premier institutions in hopes of a high return on their educational investment.”
