Union City Man Charged With Aggravated Assault

By Shannon McFarlin WENK/WTPR News Director
Union City, Tenn.—A Union City man was arrested on a charge of aggravated assault Friday after he allegedly threatened neighbors, chasing one with a hammer.
Arrested was Lawrence Pendergrass, age 48, of 616 N. Second St.
Union City Police were called to the neighbor’s house and she reported that she was walking across the street to Pendergrass’ house to check on him because he didn’t seem like himself when she had taken him to the store earlier in the day.
She said Pendergrass came out of his residence holding a hammer and threatened to beat her to death with it if she didn’t get out of his yard. She said he continued calling her names and cussing her and she was in fear for her life. Other neighbors also said Pendergrass began yelling at her and a friend, saying he knew they were talking about him and that he had a gun and could end both of them. She said she was in fear for herself, her friend and her children.
