Voting in Obion County continues heavy during the early voting period, while Henry County has experienced a last-minute spurt of voters as we move into the last day for early voting today across the state.
Obion County’s heavy turnout throughout early voting has most probably been due to the sheriff race. In Henry County, early voting started out strong and then experienced a few slow days, but Elections Director Delaina Green said it had picked up strong again as we enter the final phase of the early voting period.
Obion County Elections Director Leigh Ann Schlagel said as of Friday, the total voting early is 3,981, which breaks down as: Republican 2,850; Democrat 746; and General Election only 385.
That is much higher than in 2014, when Obion Co. cast 3,324 votes in the early voting period, she said.
In Henry Co., the total turnout as of Friday afternoon was 3,646, and that compares to 2,324 in August 2016 and 3295 in August 2014.
In Henry County, Green said, the breakdown so far has been Republican 2,855; Democrat 767 and General Election 24.
Early voting began July 13 and concludes today, July 28. The general election is August 2. Election offices are open until noon today.
