Mayday Call Goes To Dispatch As BPU Lineman Suffers Fall

By Shannon McFarlin WENK/WTPR News Director

Paris, Tenn.-A Paris Board of Public Utilities lineman who fell from a pole this afternoon appears to have suffered relatively minor injuries. “We’re counting our blessings,” BPU General Manager Terry Wimberley said.

A Mayday call from BPU went out to Henry County 911 around 2:30 p.m. Tuesday afternoon, saying that a lineman had fallen from an electric pole on Porter Switch Rd. Immediately, the dispatchers requested the Henry Co. sheriff’s office and EMS respond to the scene.

Wimberley said the Lineman/Journeyman Cody Craig was transported to Henry County Medical Center and as of 5:30 p.m., was still being treated in the emergency room.

Wimberley told WENK/WTPR this afternoon that there was no electrical contact. He said BPU was running temporary service to a construction site and Craig was on a ladder leaning against a customer pole at the site when the accident happened.

“We haven’t gotten the final reports on all his tests yet,” Wimberley said, “but from what they’re saying so far, it appears it has fairly minor injuries. He has pain in his chest and stomach and we’re waiting to hear if there are broken ribs.”

“We’re all very thankful that he is doing o.k.”, Wimberley said.
