Paris, Tenn.—During the summer, the Lakewood Middle School Speech Team participated in the National Speech and Debate Association’s Middle School National Tournament in Birmingham, Alabama. Over 100 schools participated in the event with over 700 students competing. The team is coached by David Weatherly. Lakewood took 6 students and advanced one student into the Quarterfinal round of Poetry. Ella Seaton placed in the top 24 in the nation in the event, which had almost 100 students participating. The other Lakewood students competing in the tournament were Taylor Boase, Zoe Pouliot, Lynn Chau, James Weatherly, and Faith Hutson. The team is currently gearing up for the 2017-18 season.
