Paris, Tenn.–Modern Icons at the Gallery at Paris Academy for the Arts The Gallery at Paris Academy for the Arts features the work of local artist Dan Knowles, in a show called Modern Icons, Artwork 1968-2022. An opening reception will be held from 2-4 p.m. Sunday, September 18 and everyone is invited to meet Dan and view his artwork.
Dan’s historical murals in the Paris downtown alleys are well-known, and some of his artwork has hung in previous Gallery group shows. This is the first Paris Academy show devoted exclusively to his work, and features many pieces created in the past year. Dan includes paintings, sculptures, and musical instruments he has built or decorated as a luthier. An icon may be defined as a person worthy of veneration, someone having great influence and significance to another.
Dan pays tribute to a college art teacher who qualifies as one of his icons, and has painted images of people who would qualify as icons to others.
Paris Academy for the Arts is located at 402 Lee Street.
