Martin Luther King Jr. Day At Discovery Park

Honoring the Legacy of Martin Luther King Jr.

Join us Monday, Jan. 19, as we honor the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. with a day of reflection, learning and community. The program begins at 11 a.m. in Dinosaur Hall with a keynote address from Dr. Mark McCloud, Vice Chancellor for Access and Engagement at the University of Tennessee at Martin, followed by a performance from the Discovery Park Community Choir.

Families can take part in hands-on activities inspired by Dr. King’s words, explore the connections between Dr. King and other civil rights leaders, and meet local service organizations focused on giving back. Guests are encouraged to bring canned goods to support local food banks, with discounted admission available for those who donate. Free admission will also be available for college students, faculty and staff with a valid ID.

As part of this year’s celebration, Discovery Park is hosting a Student Essay Competition for students in grades 9-12 at Obion County Central, Union City, South Fulton and local homeschool programs. The top three essays will be recognized during the program, with prizes awarded. The submission deadline is Jan. 5.
